How to Request Snohomish County Booking Reports
Most people start with the online inmate roster. It is fast. It is free. But the roster only shows current jail status. For older booking reports you have to file a public records request with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. The request goes to the records unit. You can submit it online, by mail, or in person. The form is short and asks for the name, the date range, and the type of record you want.
Staff have five business days to reply under RCW 42.56.520. The first reply may not be the records. It can be a note that says the records are being pulled. Larger asks take more time. The sheriff can charge a fee for copies. The fee is set under RCW 42.56.120 and is small. Most plain copies run a few cents per page. Bulk data may cost more.
If the booking ended in a court case, the file moves to the clerk. The Snohomish County Clerk holds the court side of the record. You can search court files through the state portal at dw.courts.wa.gov. That tool covers Superior, District, and Municipal courts across the state. It is free to use. Note: Court records and jail records are kept by two offices, so you may need to ask both for a full file.
Privacy Rules for Snohomish County Booking Reports
Three state laws shape Snohomish County booking reports. RCW 70.48.100 says the jail roster is open. It must show name, time and cause of confinement, and time and manner of discharge. RCW 42.56 sets the wider public records process. RCW 10.97 limits who can see full criminal history.
Common redactions on booking reports: names of victims, names of all juveniles, and suspect names where the person was not booked. Medical and mental health notes stay private. Active investigation files may also be held back until the case closes.
If you need a copy of a booking photo or a sealed item, you may need a signed waiver from the person, a court order, or proof you fall under one of the listed exceptions. Talk to the records officer first. They can tell you what is open before you pay any fees.
